Brian
received his Doctorate from the University
of California @ Santa Barbara
in 1966,
and spent the next 32 years of his career at Simon Fraser
University.
He is
currently a Professor Emeritus at SFU and an Adjunct Professor
at the University
of Regina.
Brian’s
research has been groundbreaking in several areas within graph theory,
including tournaments, Hamiltonian connectivity, vertex-transitive
graphs,
decompositions and, most recently, searching networks. Brian is also
considered
to be an expert on permutation groups and their actions on graphs.
Brian
has 78 publications to date, including papers published in journals
devoted to
chemistry and computer science. Brian’s
impact on the mathematical community has not been limited to his
numerous
publications. He is an enthusiastic supporter of young mathematicians,
generous
with credit in his collaborations, and is often to be found giving fun
and
innovative talks to the public and to school groups.
Brian is one of the world's leading experts on the mathematics of poker
and has contributed almost 150 articles on the subject to Canadian
Poker Player, Poker Digest, Women's Poker Magazine, and others. His website has useful
information as well. He plays in many tournaments and poker rooms
throughout North America.
