Brian Alspach

Brian received his Doctorate from the University of California @ Santa Barbara in 1966, and spent the next 32 years of his career at Simon Fraser University. He is currently a Professor Emeritus at SFU and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Regina.
Brian’s research has been groundbreaking in several areas within graph theory, including tournaments, Hamiltonian connectivity, vertex-transitive graphs, decompositions and, most recently, searching networks. Brian is also considered to be an expert on permutation groups and their actions on graphs.
Brian has 78 publications to date, including papers published in journals devoted to chemistry and computer science. Brian’s impact on the mathematical community has not been limited to his numerous publications. He is an enthusiastic supporter of young mathematicians, generous with credit in his collaborations, and is often to be found giving fun and innovative talks to the public and to school groups.

Brian is one of the world's leading experts on the mathematics of poker and has contributed almost 150 articles on the subject to Canadian Poker Player, Poker Digest, Women's Poker Magazine, and others.
